For as long as I can remember I have been buying makeup products from Boots. When I first started wearing makeup it was my go-to shop to purchase drug store makeup. Over the years I have collected and repurchased a bunch of products, so I thought I would share some of my favourite makeup products.
Lets start with my favourite base products.
When it comes to makeup everyone knows its a must to moisturise your face before applying any other products to the skin. For someone who suffers with dry skin, Simple kind to skin moisturiser has always worked well for me. I find myself repurchasing this product constantly, its a perfect moisturising base for my foundation. It’s not too oily but it does leave my face looking fresh and glowy after applying.
I’m always looking for a good primer that’s going to help my makeup last all day, without looking cakey. After all my years of searching there are two that are at the top of my list. The Smashbox photo finish primer is hands down one of my favourite primers – it lasts for hours and really evens out my skin. It feels silky smooth going on and really helps your foundation glide on over your skin.
Another great primer I have been loving for a long time is Baby skin pore eraser primer. I tend to use it on my problem areas where my pores are large and where I have blemishes. I find a lot of pore filling primers can clog my pores but this one doesn’t. Not only does this one reduce the appearance of my pores but I never had a problem with it clogging my pores. It’s the perfect canvas for applying foundation over the top.
Moving on to my favourite foundation and concealers.
I’ve recently been using the Bare Minerals bare pro foundation and I think it may be one of my new favourites. I love how it glides over my skin and looks so natural, even though the coverage is really good. I would say it was a medium to full coverage but leaves a natural matte radiant finish to your skin. Not only does it look great but it lasts all day long, even in hot humid weather. I would say if you suffer with dry skin make sure you exfoliate and moisturise well before applying, then it will glide on like butter. I noticed it doesn’t sink into my pores which is my main issue with most foundations. So glad I tired this gem.
Definitely one of my favourite concealers I have ever bought is the Collection lasting perfection concealer. There’s many high end products that I have tried and liked but I still always come back to this concealer. I have repurchased it many times over the years – I hate not having it in my collection. Not only does does this last a long time but it also covers really well. Whether that be the darkness under my eyes or any blemishes I may have. All you need is a little translucent powder to set it and your good to go.
Recently I decided to pick up Rimmel stay matte powder as I used to be a holy grail of mine. Not to a surprise I still love it! This kept my foundation set all day long and kept me from getting oily on a hot day. There’s no flashback in photos and to say its matte, it doesn’t make my skin look really dry. It doesn’t sink into my pores and works great for my combination skin – never grabs onto any dry patches. A great drugstore product!
There is one bronzer I have been totally in love with over the last few years and that has been Benefit hoola bronzer. I personally have very pale skin so I like that this bronzing powder is so versatile for many skin tones. You can either use it for a slight sun kissed bronze look or you can build it for a sculptured cheekbone look. I use it for both, depending on what look I’m going for that day. It blends out effortlessly and is easily buildable!
Another one from Benefit is their Rockateur blush, this is also one I have been using for probably about the same time as Hoola bronzer. The colour is a stunning cool rosy pink and would suit many skin tones. I would definitely wear this for any everyday makeup look – it goes with so many makeup looks. Never have I found a blush I like more than this, its so natural but easily buildable if you want a more intense blush look. Not only that but the packaging is adorable, I’m always a sucker for cute packaging.
The Sleek highlighting palette has been in my collection for about 8 months now and I’m absolutely obsessed with the glow it gives my skin. I use the lightest palette as I am very fair skinned. You need the smallest sweep of product on the brush – I find it applies better when you build it up slowly. After purchasing this I had to buy one for my friend. She has a darker skin tone than me so I got the next shade palette down. She is just as obsessed with the palette as I am, every time I see her she is glowing! It is so pigmented for the price, you really can’t go wrong.
Now onto my favourite eye products.
I have not personally found many eye palettes when it comes to Boots. I am very picky about how pigmented an eye shadow is and how well it blends out. One brand I really think kills it with both those is NYX. I’ve tried a number of their eye shadows and I sometimes feel they are a bit hit and miss, especially with the single eye shadows. I’m obsessed with the Ultimate brights shadow palette. It may not be for everyone as it is very colourful, but the pigments and colour range are amazing. I also have a couple of the NYX single shadows. I’ve found the shimmer ones are beautiful and really pigmented. Would defiantly recommend.
Another brand that has really good single shadows is L’Oreal. I find it hard to find eye shadows that aren’t chalky, so when I found these I was overwhelmed by the quality for such a good price. The L’Oreal Color Riche single eye shadows have that nice buttery soft feeling and come in a number of stunning shades. I find they apply best with my finger or with a wet brush.
Rimmel glam eyes liquid liner has always been my holy grail eyeliner. The tiny flexible brush makes it so easy to create those perfect cat eye lings, or even a thin line against the lashes. Its a dark pigmented black which stays put all day long. I’ve never had any problems with flaking or smudging after applying this. When it comes to removing this eyeliner it comes off easily with a wipe and some makeup remover. For the price the quality is amazing!
Max Factor masterpiece max mascara has been in my collection for a couple years. Its long lasting formula holds a curl all day long. Because the formula is that perfect balance of wet and dry you can really build your lashes without it clumping – to get that false lash effect. The brush is the perfect size to get every individual lash with out making a mess. This mascara looks amazing all day long and it never flakes or smudges. Can’t go wrong for a drugstore mascara.
I have two brands which I always pick up when it comes to false lashes. I struggle to find lashes that stay on all day and sit nicely on my eye shape. Eyelure lashes have always been a favourite of mine, ever since I started wearing false lashes. They last a really long time and are easily to apply. The band is flexible and the glue that comes with them is strong – you don’t have to worry about them pinging off halfway through the night. There are so many different styles so you won’t struggle to find your perfect lash.
I’m also obsessed with Kiss lashes. I never fail to get compliments when I wear lashes from this brand. They are so fluttery looking and fit my eyes perfectly. I find I can reuse these lashes multiple times without them looking clumpy – especially when I clean and look after them properly. You can pair them with any eye look to make your eyes look a little more dramatic.
Can’t forget about the lips!
I’ve got a few Rimmel exaggerate lip liners in my collection and honestly I think they are amazing, to say how affordable they are. The packaging makes them easy to use, helping you get that nice sharp line – if you wanted to overdraw your lips a little I would recommend this lip liner! The formula isn’t too stiff and glides on smoothly. There’s nothing worse than those scratchy pencils that hurt to apply. It lasts all day, even through eating and drinking. Also the colour range is really good, finding your perfect shade will be easy!
Some of my favourite lipsticks from Boots are the NYX soft matte lip cream lipsticks. One of the main things I love about them is they come in a wide variety of colours – which a lot are perfect for creative looks. They have a really nice creamy formula which is not too drying and lasts a long time. With a lip liner this lipstick does not smudge, but I would recommend using a lip liner beforehand. I’m wearing the shade San Francisco, with NYX Peach Crisp butter gloss over the top (also one of my favourites) if you where curious.
My makeup was done with all these products in my photos, to help give you an idea of what they look like on.
